Written sometime before Firedance 2004 in preparation for "The RhythmTree". Here's the description from the event program:
Total Immersion at the RhythmTree.
Join Joshua Levin, Michael Wall, and many guest faculty - almost all day, everyday - at the Rhythmtree. Many of Firedance's most drum struck groove gardeners will be cultivating musical refinement and the evolving rhythmaculture of the sacred fire circle.
Whether you have been exploring this path for decades or are beginning this very moment, you are invited to study, learn, and teach others in the ongoing, ever-growing curriculum of the Rhythmtree. This open campus is located at the Diversifire, and will draw upon the expertise of many experienced Firedance rhythm gardeners in co-creating a spontaneous investigation of the endless mysteries of musical magic.
Through facilitated jams, rhythm games and exercises, meditations, discussion, mindful listening, extended entrainment, and deep sacred play, we will step out onto many branches of life's percussive possibilities.
The Rhythmtree is devoted to nurturing a rhythmaculture that reflects, empowers, and harmonizes with the distinct post-modern context of Euro-American sacred rhythm space. We are joined together in the discovery of our own distinct and beautiful voice. With the understanding that we are in part, who we sound like when we are together, we plant the seeds for new ways to come together in and through sound.
It is our intention that the harvest of the Firedance Rhythmtree will include:
1) Musical refinement around the sacred fire, in interactive harmonious relationship with Dance, Voice and Service.
2) A conscious, balanced sharing of sonic space for quieter musical expressions.
3) Conceptual growth and experiential wisdom, as we recognize the resonance between the microcosm of rhythmic insights and the macrocosm of rhythmic life.
4) Extraordinary friendships, the brotherhood and sisterhood of rhythm, that takes root through the power of the drum.
5) Maximum rhythmic immersion and the transformational effects of focused practice.
The tree fuels the fire, the fire nurtures the soil from which great trees grow.
Join us for cycle, after cycle, after cycle....

LYRICS:
and from our hands comes time revealed,
born in service, on sacred ground
we work the magic of mindful practice
richly woven, intricate sound
